Yew is a wonderful wood to work with and to (be)hold. It flows like butter off the tool, and the surface just invites the hand to touch it. On pieces like this one, I also always try to find a shape that shows the contrast between the creamy white sapwood with the orange heartwood. This vase can actually be used to hold water, as it is sealed with polyurethane varnish (almost like a transparent plastic coating), and the base is heavy enough to make sure it will stand with a small bunch of flowers in it.
