This piece was one of three created for a competition calling for a “novelty item”. I had always toyed with the idea of using pentagon shapes in my turnings somewhere, and in this case it was 5 legs instead of corners.

There are three different types of wood used here: the bowl is made from monkeypuzzle (araucaria araucana), the legs are made from indian maple and the ring is plum. Despite its fragile look, the bowl can handle weights of up to 2kg easily, and could be used as a fruit bowl or for a potpourri.
