A tree surgeon I use as a source has over the last year or so listened carefully to what I am looking for, and he’s now starting to collect quite a few remarkable pieces of wood. Amongst many others, he has managed to keep a lot of a maple with curly wood. This is a particular growth pattern where the grain grows in waves instead of straight lines.
This bowl is now sold.
When turned, this results in a feature that plays with the light and seems to move as the light moves across the finished item. This dish is a very beautiful example of this.
