Cookie jar

A simple box, which can be used as a cookie jar, or to store whatever needs storing. The bottom is made from monkeypuzzle, and the lid is zebrano.

Zebrano is a surprisingly hard tropical wood with open pores, which always gives a slightly rough look on the end grain, even though it is actually totally smooth.

Monkeypuzzle (araucaria) is native to Chile and Argentina, where it is nowadays protected after overlogging. Here in the UK it is occasionally available from the felling of trees in private gardens. Most people don’t really how fast these trees grow and how big they can get. Quite bland, but also relatively hard (for a coniferous tree).
